In the Making

In the Making was a new format for presenting new works created by Rambert dancers and other artists at our London home. It was an opportunity to see sketches, experiments, short works and works in progress performed in our South Bank studios.

Curated by independent choreographer and producer Amy Bell, each day featured two separate programmes of works which took place in spaces throughout our award-winning building.

In The Making included work by our Leverhulme Choreography Fellow Julie Cunningham, and work contributed by company dancers Luke Ahmet, Miguel Altunaga, Carolyn Bolton, Simone Damberg Würtz, Daniel Davidson, Stephen Quildan and Pierre Tappon.

As well as the below programmes which led guests around our London home, there was an exhibition of photographs by company dancer Stephen Wright which captured the development of the work being shown, plus a display of archival material giving insight into Rambert’s history of dancers creating dances.

Miguel Altunaga will contribute two works to the programme. On Tuesday 13 December there will be a chance to see a work in progress, accompanied with live music, made in collaboration with musical quartet Collectress. On Wednesday 14 December he will show his finished work Labo(rat)ori, a collaboration with artist Michaela Zimmer which was first shown at The Lowry, Salford, October 2016.

Rambert’s Leverhulme Choreography Fellow Julie Cunningham will present work in progress of a new piece to premiere at The Barbican in 2017, featuring dancers from Michael Clark Company.

Programme B

Simone Damberg Würtz will present a roving impromptu solo sketch, as well as a work in progress duet featuring music by Cheryl Frances-Hoad, played live by Rambert company pianist Yshani Perinpanayagam.

Carolyn Bolton’s early sketch is of a new duet with a commissioned score from Roberto David Rusconi.

Another chance to see Rambert’s Leverhulme choreography fellow Julie Cunningham’s work in progress featuring dancers from Michael Clark Company, to premiere at The Barbican in 2017.

Tickets are £12.50 (concs £10) for a single programme on either date – on the booking page which opens, be careful to choose the correct date required from the drop down menu.

You can see both programmes for £20 (concs £15), seen on the same date or different dates.
