Rambert appoints Rafael Biosse Duplan as incoming Chair of the Board

Rambert today announces the appointment of Rafaël Biosse Duplan as incoming Chair of the Board, effective June 2026. This appointment comes at a landmark moment in Rambert’s history, with the company founded by Marie Rambert celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

Biosse Duplan brings over three decades of experience working in the financial sector, having held senior executive roles in banking, and served as Chief Executive of a global asset manager. Alongside his career, he co-founded EMpower UK, a global foundation that partners with local organisations and other community leaders to enable marginalised young people to transform their lives.

Biosse Duplan grew up in Paris immersed in museum culture, where he witnessed first-hand the transformative power of the arts in engaging broad and diverse audiences. Over time, he nurtured a passion for visual and performing arts, developing a specific interest for photography and dance. He currently holds senior governance roles at the V&A and at The Photographers’ Gallery in London.

As Chair, Biosse Duplan will bring financial stewardship and risk management expertise, working closely with the Board and the executive team to support Rambert as it writes the next chapter of its exceptional history, strengthening its long-term resilience and sustainability in its centenary year and beyond.

His appointment follows current Chair Dame Sue Street’s seven year tenure. Biosse Duplan will build on Dame Sue Street’s legacy, continuing to champion bold artistic choices by supporting Chief Executive & Executive Producer Helen Shute and Artistic Director Benoit Swan Pouffer, while encouraging continued strategic innovation and extending Rambert’s successes in reaching new audiences across the UK and internationally.

Dame Sue Street, Chair of Rambert, said:
“I feel incredibly proud of Rambert and its remarkable dancers, who every day demonstrate the artistry, diversity and resilience that define the company. After seven years in the role, I warmly welcome Rafaël as Chair-designate. His leadership will be invaluable in shaping Rambert at 100, as the company continues to deliver major creative projects and to reach substantial audiences in the UK and internationally. I know that the talented leadership of Helen Shute and Benoit Swan Pouffer will have his full support, together with that of our wonderful trustees, in their commitment to nurturing new artistic voices, widening participation in dance and serving communities across the country.”

Rafaël Biosse Duplan, Chair-designate of Rambert said:
I am delighted to be joining Rambert at such a pivotal moment in its history and it is a privilege to be entrusted with the Chair. I am deeply grateful to Dame Sue Street for the care and strength of leadership she has brought to Rambert. This is a company defined by artists—by courage, curiosity and reinvention across generations. Building on this foundation, my focus will be to steward Rambert’s extraordinary cultural capital responsibly and imaginatively—ensuring it continues to thrive as a national and international force, accessible, resilient and artistically uncompromising for the next hundred years.

Helen Shute, Chief Executive & Executive Producer and Benoit Swan Pouffer, Artistic Director of Rambert said:
It is a real pleasure to welcome Rafaël Biosse Duplan as Chair-designate and we look forward to working with him to continue to champion ambitious and groundbreaking dance in our local community, around the country and internationally.  He builds on the brilliant leadership of Dame Sue Street who leaves a legacy of ambition and collaboration in the board and executive team which we know will continue.
