Rambert Grades

An innovative framework for contemporary dance training

We’ve announced our first call out for teachers as we launch joint venture Rambert Grades with Rambert School.

Rambert Grades is a progressive new framework for contemporary dance training, and sets the benchmark in contemporary dance training and education; but is about more than dance training and examination.

This programme is inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of students’ ability and prior experience of formal dance training. It allows each dancer to make choices and develop their own interpretation of movement. The training is holistic, promotes transferable skills, and develops the whole individual.

Rambert Grades has been developed by a leading team of experts from Rambert and Rambert School with some of the most dynamic and relevant voices of contemporary dance in the UK, including material devised for the syllabus by Hofesh Shechter, Alesandra Seutin and Benoit Swan Pouffer.

The Rambert Grades syllabus is articulated around three pillars:

– Performance, including original solo material from three leading choreographers
– Technique, to support the students’ dancing
– Creativity, to encourage self-development and a sense of self enterprise.

Together, these strands offer the dance teacher a comprehensive framework to
inspire their students to push themselves to explore their full potential through
dance.

The syllabus delivers the very best in current technical and performance practice and strongly encourages creativity and the students’ self-initiative, giving them agency to carry through with their own interpretation.

We wanted to give daring and brilliant young people around the world an accredited dance grades syllabus that recognises their creativity and individuality. This is what makes the Rambert dancers special and exceptional dance artists and we believe the same about all the young people studying dance around the world.

The future of dance must be diverse and with this grades syllabus we want to celebrate young people of every different background as they move through the grades and receive rightful recognition for their achievements.

Helen Shute, Chief Executive/ Executive Producer of Rambert

We are absolutely thrilled to be launching Rambert Grades, a landmark collaboration between Rambert School and Rambert, who together share almost 100 years of Rambert heritage. Rambert Grades are inclusive and accessible, encouraging creative skills and independence: in true Rambert spirit each individual student's voice is recognised and celebrated.

Amanda Britton, Principal and Artistic Director of Rambert School

Rambert has been a source of inspiration throughout my twenty-five years of teaching dance and for Rambert Grades to launch in the centenary year of Rambert School really does bring home the historic nature of this joint venture. The combined experience, expertise and innovation of Rambert and Rambert School enables Rambert Grades to train, develop and support dance teachers in delivering a contemporary dance training programme of the very highest quality. I’m most excited about the opportunity Rambert Grades offers all young people, and in ensuring their diverse experiences and individuality are intrinsically valued in Rambert Grades.
