KISMET Bringing together two heartfelt and highly relatable works, new creation Gallery of Consequence (Emma Evelein) and B.R.I.S.A. (Johan Inger), KISMET is a joyful reflection on the unpredictable and deeply human experience we all share. Award-winning Dutch choreographer and director Emma Evelein draws on her unique blend of street and contemporary styles to create her first commission for a UK dance company. In this brand new piece, Emma takes us to an airport, a terminal of sorts where every gate tells a story and every departure marks a choice. With Gallery of Consequence, Evelein reflects on the moments that shape our lives. Performed to an eclectic soundscape designed by Raven Bush and supported by striking visuals by Ryan Joseph Staord (Lighng design) and Susan Bender Whiield (styling), as well as video design by award-winning London-based new media and experience artist AMIANGELIKA, Gallery of Consequence features Rambert’s 18 brilliant dancers who bring to life the chaos, quiet, and connections we find in transit. Inspired by the Spanish word for “breeze,” Johan Inger’s B.R.I.S.A. is a joyful whirlwind of movement, music, and humour, originally choreographed for the young talent of Nederlands Dans Theater 2 in 2014. With leaf blowers propelling the action and a killer soundtrack by Amos Ben-Tal (featuring some of Nina Simone’s celebrated songs), this now iconic work explores how the smallest things can spark transformation. B.R.I.S.A. is the first piece of Johan Inger’s body of work to be performed by Rambert. Learn more about this tour. I felt completely at home at Rambert. I was given the space, freedom and tools to create a work that feels authentic and personal to me. The dancers are incredible movers, artists, technical but free-spirited and practiced movement artists with a great work ethic. They know how to be in an ensemble and how to take you on a personal journey when in solo parts. Gallery of Consequence is a story about humanity and our vulnerability, even in a world where we try to be constantly in control. In order to not only create a vulnerable piece but a workspace as well, you need this kind of group to work with. Of her experience creating Gallery of Consequence for Rambert, Emma Evelein says B.R.I.S.A explores the fragile hope of the seemingly insignicant breeze that becomes the storm in which new beginnings can take shape and create new futures. I felt Rambert was such place where anything is possible, a platform open to meet and reflect on today’s challenges and its issues, to try and be a partner and a mirror of today's world, being human, nothing more nothing less.
