Beryl Goldwyn Beryl Goldwyn talks about her time with Rambert from the late 1940s to 1960. Beryl traces her journey from dancing as a three-year-old in ‘The Teddy Bears Picnic’ to her career as a soloist with Rambert. She auditioned for Marie Rambert in 1947 on the eve of the Company’s Australian Tour but as they were to be away for several months, it was suggested that she join classes – with free tuition until their return. In this interview, Beryl shares her stories of being a dancer with Rambert – the Ballet at Eight programme at the Mercury Theatre, how her first roles were passed down to her from Paula Hinton and how she developed the role of Giselle, making it her own. Beryl also remembers touring with the Company and describes how she would travel home on the ‘milk train’ in the early hours of Sunday morning just to spend a day at home in London. 00:08:43 ‘Giselle’ (Coralli/Perrot/Petipa, 1884/1945/1965) 00:18:18 Marie Rambert 00:24:16 Mercury Theatre 00:24:50 Ashley Dukes 00:29:57 Paula Hinton 00:31:50 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival (USA), 1959 00:36:40 Ballet at Eight Interview recorded on 24 May 2016 in Hertfordshire.
