Alternative title: Suite de Danses
World premiere: 23 Jul 1927, Pupils of Madame Marie Rambert, New Scala Theatre, London
Work note: First performed as 'Suite de Danses' at the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing's Annual Dance Festival. In 1928, the title became 'Nymphs and Shepherds', likely to denote an extended version of the original. The Dancing Times referred to the ballet as 'Galanteries' or 'Les Petits Riens' (the music's title), although these were not the titles given on the programmes. Later programmes credit Frederick Ashton as the choreographer of the duet 'Gavotte Sentimentale'.
