Work note: Directed by Roberto Rossellini, this production of the oratorio-opera 'Joan of Arc at the Stake' starred Ingrid Bergman in the speaking role of Joan. The production included a ballet choreographed by David Ellis that depicted Joan's nightmare, in which diplomats play a political game of cards. As the oratorio ran just over an hour, Ballet Rambert opened the evening with 'Giselle' Act I. The season at the Stoll Theatre ran 20 October-13 November 1954.
