Peter Curtis Peter Curtis talks about life as a dancer with Rambert during the 1960s. In this interview, Peter recalls the journey from his first ballet classes as a young boy to classes with Marie Rambert and then joining Ballet Rambert in 1961. Peter toured extensively in the UK and internationally with the Company and tells us about the ways in which the dancers passed the long hours travelling from place to place. He remained with Rambert when it reformed as contemporary dance company in 1966 and here discusses the challenges of taking on a contemporary technique after years of classical training. In 1970, ‘Bertram Batell’s Sideshow’, a programme designed to educate young audiences in the range of dance styles used by the Company, was first performed and was a huge success. Peter recalls choreographing a short piece for the production and attempting to cross the stage on a skateboard. 00:03:54 Marie Rambert 00:11:00 Fred Bromwich 00:20:39 Tour of Mediterranean and Middle East, 1963 00:36:30 Contemporary Dance 00:41:38 ‘Bertram Batell’s Sideshow’ (The Company, 1970) 00:34:42 Norman Morrice 00:54:19 Glen Tetley Interview recorded on 5 May 2016 at Rambert, London.
