Aisha and Abhaya: Behind the Scenes

Aisha & Abhaya was an ambitious new Rambert creation with director Kibwe Tavares. This was a fantistical journey into other worlds with live performance fused with film and animation performed to packed houses at the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Studio. Here are its origins in the studio.

We loved working with Kibwe and you can listen to him in conversation with Artistic Director Benoit Swan Pouffer and watch more of his film work here.

Rooms Trailer

(This livestream has now passed)

17 dancers, 36 scenes, 100 characters, 1000 costumes…

Like passing-by miniature scenes through a train window, or cycling through the streets and peering into apartments, we all love to glimpse into other lives and the homes they’re lived out in.

Rambert’s brilliant dancers invite us into wildly different worlds and surprising set-ups. People trying to live their lives, navigate dilemmas, swerve mishaps and survive their mini-dramas.

Rooms is a daftly ambitious dance-theatre film that is performed live. It’s sometimes absurd it’s oftentimes funny. It’s beautiful and it’s peculiar, and occasionally a little bit sad. Or maybe it’s all perfectly normal.

Block Party

From the imagination of Megan Lawson (Adele ‘Oh, My God music video, Madonna ‘Madame X’ tour), jump inside Block Party.

The final piece from the current Rambert2 company is a playful and funky short dance film, that mixes contemporary and street dance with a totally retro vibe.

Block Party is like a game to find the missing piece. The clock is ticking – can you guess the final shape before time runs out?

Draw from Within: Behind the Scenes Interview

After months of lockdown, our company of dancers were back together at our South Bank home sign in rehearsing. BBC London News came to our studio to see behind the scenes of our socially distanced creation of a very different digital offering, Draw from Within.

Draw from Within was real time live streamed on Rambert Home Sign In Studio for three performances and can now be viewed on Marquee TV.
